A letter to a friend in Van Gogh style

18-11-2011

Hi Michelle,

I had such a nice assignment in the
art lessen. We had to make a self portrait but than in the Van Gogh style. It
was quite hard to make something that actually looked like yourself with only a
few colours but it worked out very well.

I made one drawing in my favourite
colours. The background was black with red, while I made my clothes green and
brownish so it looked really dark. I liked the picture and I wanted to express
myself because I’m always a bit darker. You will always see me being down and
not really seeing me wearing to bright colours. The face I made by mixing
different colours to make skin colour. When I tried to make a nose it didn’t
work out so well so I made it with a small black line. Although that is
actually drawing. My eyes looked rather strange because I had drawn them. One
looks like a dirt spot while the other one looks like a whale. My eyebrows are
also rather strange and they are not really nice. It looks like I’m cross eyed.
My hair looks quite good because my own hair is dark on top but light down.
Although I’m going to paint it purple.

The other picture shows me when I am
in a really interesting mood. I don’t know why I did it like that but I like
the colours green and yellow and it had to be the opposite of my other colours.
You can see that my eyes on that one look totally different than my eyes on the
other one but that is because it was my first painting I finished I used the
bright colours and the eyes had to look bright to. They surely do. I used
different brush strokes but not on the shirt because if you mix those colours
it gets puke green. My mouth looks a bit strange but that is because I used the
black in it, while it actually had to be a darker tint of pink. In this one you
can better see the different strokes and I did it all with one brush so the
colours are mixed and it doesn’t look like one big brown or green-yellow space.

More I don’t need to tell about my
paintings but I like my one with red and black more. I hope you send me your
opinion to.

Hope to hear from you soon,

Self Portrait

For art we had to make a self portrait. On the left one you can see me when I’m just happy. You can see that because of the light colours that I used and the smile on my face. On the right drawing you can see me in my normal mood. I just my favourite colours red and black and also some other dark colours because I like that. I think that my right drawing is the best although my eyes look a bit strange.

assignment for the spy.

How many cities used to have large churches and how many cathedrals were there in the middle ages? 50 cities used to have large churches and there were no cathedrals in the middle ages.
Do the cities in a circle of 30 miles around Terneuzen have large churches? How high are the towers of those churches? Yes Hulst has a large churche the tower is 70m.
The differences in gothic cathedrals in England, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Italy and Spain. England: Everywhere decorations and with crypts. France: Really square no crosses, has a lot of rose windows. the Netherlands: Different stones used, and low towers. Belgium: Has a clock tower, and a lot of crosses. Germany: Has one small tower in the middle is not that big only high. Italy: Has no high tower in the middle, but has five doors. Spain: Has a lot of statues, has golden decorations. All the cathedrals have towers next to the doors, and they all have large windows.

Lille

We have been a day to Lille we actually had to make drawings in the museum but we couldn't go in so we had to do it outside. I made a drawing from the museum, a drawing from a lantern and a drawing from a fountain. It was really nice in Lille and we saw a lot of nice things.

Stamps

The first assigment we were given was to make a stamp from linoleum. The stamp needed to have our first letter in it and also had to tell something about ourself. I made a smiley were the eyes were connected in the letter M. I also gave it devel ears and the mouth was a horseshoe. It was really fun but a lot of work.

Fantasie

We had to make for art a paper with all things about a subject. My subject was fantasie.

After we had filled our paper with words we were given another paper. In magazines we had to look up picteres wich matched our words. It was really fun and some people couldn't find pictures easily but with me it went pretty well.

My gargoule

For art we were asked to make a gargoule this is mine and I'm really proud of it.
It is a kind of dragon. It has wings and the water comes out of his mouth. You can see that he has spikes everywere over his body. I really liked the assigment.

After our visit to the Canterbury Cathedral.

I really liked the Cathedral. It was really what I expected but our guide went a bit to fast throug the tour. We have seen the library and the Lady Chapel. We also have been in the crypt. We have seen beautiful wall paintings and also very nice glass in lead windows. I really liked the crossing of the Cathedral because there was a beautiful arch in the middle and the sealing is decorated with beautiful woodworks. I have heard the story of Thomas Becket and I really like the story because it shows that it's not always safe in a cathedral.

This are the statues above the main entrance.
This is the nave of the cathedral.
This is the glass in lead window in the nave.
This is the library.

This is the water tower.
This is the gallery.

This is the sealing of the gallery.

My expectations about the Canterbury Cathedral.

I think we will see a huge building with beautiful windows. Of course I expect that the tower will be amazing and the paintings in good conditions. I believe that I will really like it because I think that it's interesting to see those old medieval buildings. I will like it to see were Thomas Becket was murdered and to see his grave. I already know that Thomas Becket was murdered in the Cathedral and that the library was bombarded in the war.
